We managed to catch the cheese market in September (every Friday 10am-1pm until end of Sept). We learnt a lot about Gouda cheese and the historical trading of cheese. You can experience the weight by the end of the session, it’s 1€ per person. The pancake stall beside the market (phot no.5)is delicious. €6 with two toppings.

Alkmaar is a beatiful town, very dutch. The cheesemarket though I felt it more as a rappresentation of what it used to be in the past. You will find some cheese sellers but the market itself is very small and very crowded. I suggest going early in the morning and park outside the town, on the other side of the canal you will find parking for 3 euro a day. You can see the market ans enjoy a walk along the canals into the town, where you will find also some very nice little shops

This is a short day trip from Amsterdam, about 25-30 mins from Amsterdam Central Station. Once you get to Alkmaar, walk about 20 minutes to the square on a Friday morning. It's fenced off, so make sure you get a good spot around the market to watch. Plenty of food - Dutch pancakes, Cheese and Cafes. They still do everything the old way, from carrying the cheese, weighing it and wearing traditional clothing. A must see if you're in Amsterdam.

It's very traditional 'entertainment'. It's a good experience to see, but it's so crowded! If you are ''small'' or ''short'', you can't see what's going on! I recommend you to wear high heels. lol There're little food trucks where you can have a snack! Pancakes are good!

A Historic Cheese Market In Alkmaar Netherlands. A definitely worthwhile visit to this location where you can see how they use to trade cheese exactly as it has been for the last few hundreds of years as these guys have completely preserved the way of buying cheese back in the day all the way to today and keeps going. The entire area is filled with many attractions like the cheese museum, restaurants, Dessert shops and pubs. If you're heading outside of Amsterdam this should certainly be on your bucket list. 🧀

This market happens on Friday mornings from what I found in my research. And so we visited on a Friday morning in May. The market opens early and only goes until about 12noon . So if you want to see the show, go early. There are also some booths that see different types of Gouda cheese. A cool attraction to see if you’re in the Netherlands on a Friday.

A historic place where cheese was sold by the cheese makers. Here you will see a show that reproduces the Friday morning historic cheese market. There is also a cheese museum. Come early because it gets over crowded very fast, it will be very difficult to see anything until almost 12 o’clock if you are not standing in the first line. Here you can buy: 1. Cheese of different kinds 2. Dutch fries 3. Hering 4. Drink a cup of great coffee 5. Take a cruise in the canals 6. It in a restaurant that is actually a boat 7. Lots of great shops are located near the market Cool place but very crowds on Fridays of April
